5 day class
In order to further advance your hand-tool skills, we are offering this special 5-day Tool-Making workshop where you will make some very useful woodworking tools. In this workshop, you will make six tools: a mallet, dovetail marker, sharpening strop, cutting gauge, spokeshave and marking knife. Although you can buy these tools “ready made,” there is something special about making your own tool and customizing it. With the skills learned in this class, you will then be able to make additional tools on your own to fill out your tool set. The mallet will be hard maple and the other tools will be a selection of walnut, cherry and exotic hardwoods. You will need to bring a sharp 8” mill file, a 10” round rasp, a 1/8” chisel and leather gloves. Some of this work is very detailed, so you might want to consider a magnifying lamp or good glasses.
This class is from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
In order to secure your place in a class, we must receive your full registration fee for any class costing $1,000.00 or less.
Prerequisite: Six-Day Foundational Joinery Course
All our classes close 24 hours before the class date with the exception of classes that start on Monday, which will close the Friday before. If there’s a class that closed early that you’d like to attend, please call us at 254-754-9620 to check for availability.
Note: Since our workshops are specifically designed for adults, an individual must be 18 years old to enroll in a class. All students should wear practical work clothes and shoes. For your safety, we ask that you do not wear shorts or sandals to a class you are attending.
