Description
1 day class
Dairy goats are very practical for the family homestead or the small farm. They are easy for a family to take care of. Because of their size, they work well with children. They produce a “family-sized” amount of milk (about 3/4 to 1 gallon per day for a lactating doe). They require a relatively small amount of land for forage.
This one-day class will provide a good introduction to family dairy-goat husbandry. You will learn about the different breeds of goats, how to choose a good dairy goat, how to keep your goat healthy and how to milk. We will show you how to trim hooves, share plans for barns and milk stands, and we will discuss pasture care for sustainability. Breeding, kidding and kid care will also be included. This class will involve outdoor activities. Please bring a wide-brimmed hat and wear long sleeves. Also, bring appropriate clothing for cold or inclement weather. No shorts or sandals, please.
This class is from 9 a.m – 5 p.m.
All our classes close 24 hours before the class date with the exception of classes that start on Monday, which will close the Friday before. If there’s a class that closed early that you’d like to attend, please call us at 254-754-9620 to check for availability.

This was a very informative class. I was surprised at the large amount of information that was shared by the two instructors to include experiences they both had with goats. I walked into the class knowing nothing and by the end of the day felt comfortable in understanding what it will take to care for goats. We all got the chance to milk a goat! Highly recommend.
