Making Workbenches
Making Workbenches
Your workbench is one of the most central tools in your woodworking shop, particularly if you work a lot with hand tools. It provides a solid, flat, level work surface to support your workpieces at a comfortable height and serves to hold them steady while you work on them. In addition, a well-designed workbench offers flexible ways to clamp and support wood of various shapes and sizes.
There are many different styles and sizes of workbenches. We offer classes on how to make two different types that have proven to work well for furniture making, joinery and hand-tool woodworking. These are geared more towards hand tool woodworking but can certainly be used in combination with machines as well. Both of these benches use a leg vise and a tail vise and we highly recommend them.
- Split Top Roubo Workbench with Benchcrafted M series leg vise and tail vise
- Heritage Joiners Bench with Benchrafted M series leg vise and tail vise
Once completed, your workbench will be not only a key component of your shop but a piece of fine craftsmanship that you can enjoy every time you work in your shop. There are also ways you can personalize your bench, so feel free to ask our craftsmen if you have ideas or questions on it. We do like to adjust your bench height to fit you so if you have a chance, try getting up close to several different heights to see what you prefer.
