Description
3 day class
In this intensive three-day course we emphasize the different techniques that distinguish the two main areas of turning between centers and face-plate turning. Students turn a series of lathe projects designed to develop specific wood turning skills and techniques. Each of the projects reinforces technique and helps students to gain understanding and grow in their confidence working on the lathe. First you’ll do several exercises in spindle turning. Then you’ll practice this skill by making a series of successive projects including multiple matching legs and finish up by turning a bowl.
We cover all aspects of tool use, safety on the lathe, different lathe accessories and a wide range of lathe turning methods. We also discuss the nature of the different woods and their suitability for turning as well as building a small stool with round mortise and tenon joinery.
This class is from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
All our classes close 24 hours before the class date with the exception of classes that start on Monday, which will close the Friday before. If there’s a class that closed early that you’d like to attend, please call us at 254-754-9620 to check for availability.
